David Hall, "king" of the murder mystery, meets with foul play in a ghost-ridden resort hotel. When Perry Mason's close friend, publisher Jordan White, is falsely accused of the crime, Perry tackles his most haunting case. Despite the hotel's notorious past and bizarre present, Hall's murderer is no apparition and against the master of courtroom drama, he doesn't stand a ghost of a chance!

Hall's secretary, Andrew Lloyd, assembles an odd group of weekend guests at the request of David Hall. The invited- White, psychic Donald Sayer, actress Maura McGuire and astrologer Michael Light-have more than a little in common. An unflattering and thinly- veiled characterization of each features prominently in Hall's latest novel. Each has reason enough already to hate Hall; a copy of the offending novel and an unsettling display of spiritual pyrotechnics set them even more on edge.

Is it a practical joke? Or is someone being goaded into murder? That question is answered when David Hall is pushed from the hotel's tower to his death on the pavement below And it's up to Perry Mason to prove why with a little help from the here and now and some inspiration from the great beyond.
