Updates on the JonBenet Ramsey Murder
Investigation
Ramsey Search Warrant Information Released
Full Ramsey Ransom Note Published (Sept. 3) The ransom
note for JonBenet Ramsey was published in The Denver Post on Sept. 4. The newspaper said it obtained the two-and-a-half page letter from an advance copy of the next issue of Vanity Fair, which features a story on the case. JonBenet's mother, Patricia Ramsey, told authorities that
she found the ransom note on Dec. 26, 1996 after she had discovered that her daughter was missing. The author of the ransom note indicated that a group of
individuals representing a "small foreign faction" had kidnapped JonBenet Ramsey. The note was specifically directed towards JonBenet's father, John Ramsey. It
instructed Ramsey to withdraw $118,000 from his account and put the money in a brown paper bag. The alleged kidnapper then told Ramsey that he would receive
instructions on the delivery of the money and the return of JonBenet over the phone between 8 a.m and 10 a.m. the next day. The note warned Ramsey that if he
contacted authorities and did not follow every instruction, JonBenet would die. John Ramsey never received the phone call, but he found his daughter murdered
in the family's basement approximately eight hours after his wife found the letter. The former Little Miss Colorado had been strangled to death. JonBenet Ramsey's
ransom note ended with "Victory! S.B.T.C." Reportedly, investigators have suspected that the initials refer to the Subic Bay training center in the Philippines. John
Ramsey served there while he was in the Navy. In addition to the The Denver Post and Vanity Fair, excerpts of the note also appeared in the
Rocky Mountain News. Prior to its publication, only the Boulder District Attorney's Office, the Ramseys' lawyers, and the Boulder Police Department reportedly had
copies of the ransom note. Representatives from all these parties have denied providing copies of the letter to Vanity Fair. There still have been no arrests
in the murder of JonBenet Ramsey.
