Hit show
Charged with assault, the 17-year-old stands up with his attorney while his dad nervously watches from the gallery.During the presentation of facts, the young man's own words echo through the chamber but they are voiced by the prosecutor.
"I hit him 'cause I felt like it."
The on-scene confession represents a pretty strong case, but the prosecutors offers even more.
"Your honor, this gratuitous bit of violence was very likely filmed. The assault took place in a TV studio. And this person assaulted the hosts of a TV show."
The judge can't believe what he heard: "This young man punched the host of a TV show on camera?"
Grave nods come from all around. The cable network, it is later learned, was Fuse TV. And the show was "The Daily Download."
The defense stresses that the young man's father is determined to right this ship, and the judge calls the father up to the bench for a closer inspection.
"Can you keep this boy out of trouble?"
"Yes, your honor."
"More importantly, can you keep him away from this TV station."
Again, and more emphatically, "Yes, your honor."
The defendant is released and an order of protection is issued against one particular spot on the dial.
