NEW YORK (Court TV) — None of the four police officers involved in the shooting death of Amadou Diallo have yet to make a public statement on the incident, but on Wednesday famous lawyer Johnnie Cochran said he would most likely be suing the city on behalf of Diallo's parents.

Cochran, appearing on Court TV's "Pros & Cons," said that the issue was not about money, but about holding the city accountable for the actions of the officers, who shot 41 times at the unarmed Guinean immigrant and hit him 19 times.

According to Cochran, who also hosts his own program on Court TV, an important part of the investigation for the Diallos will be a search for accounts by independent witnesses. Cochran also expressed his outrage at the "cowboy mentality" which resulted in Diallo's death.

"All right-thinking people are concerned that this could happen to them," Cochran said. He added that with his extensive experience of police brutality cases he could "not think of any reason" for the amount of force used.

The former O.J. Simpson lawyer also criticized a suggestion by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani that if the police had hollow point bullets, less shots would have been required to stop the suspect.

Such comments were the "height of insensitivity," Cochran said.

Court TV's Kim Khan contributed to this report.
