LOS ANGELES (AP) — A woman accused of running over and killing a pregnant woman following a brawl over a man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder and other related charges.
Unique Bishop, 21, is charged with two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder stemming from the street fight on Nov. 5.
Prosecutors alleged Bishop drove a convertible into a group of women at a South Los Angeles gas station, killing Shontae Treniece Blanche, 22, and her fetus, and injuring three other women.
Authorities said Bishop and a woman fighting over the same man met at the gas station to settle the dispute, and as many as 30 women were involved in the melee.
After the fighting, four women — including Blanche and the woman involved in the dispute with Bishop — began walking away. Bishop became upset and drove into the group, authorities alleged.
Police said Bishop told them she was trying to escape the chaotic scene and hit the victims by accident.
Bishop remains jailed without bail. Her pretrial hearing is scheduled for Jan. 18.
