O.J. Simpson: Ten Years Later
An interview with Simpson houseguest and trial witness Kato Kaelin
June 7, 2004

Court TV Host: It's been 10 years since Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman, were brutally murdered in her California home on June 12, 1994. Simpson houseguest and trial witness Kato Kaelin was just on Catherine Crier's show -- join him live online. Our guest, Kato Kaelin, is here!

Kato Kaelin: Kato here, where are you?

Question from Mistermenace: Kato, what you doing now-a-days for a livin'?

Kato Kaelin: Comedy development at National Lampoon, and look for me hosting "I Love The 90's" on VH1.

Question from StlEd: Kato, please comment on the reports that you cleaned OJ's Bronco on 6/12 when Simpson told you he had been in an accident.

Kato Kaelin: Never heard that story and never cleaned it.

Question from Anushka: Kato, thank you for being with us ... Have you kept in contact with OJ since the trial, if not why not?

Kato Kaelin: Have not. No reason to.

Question from Zulu: Kato, you just stated that you think OJ is guilty, what is the main reason you say that?

Kato Kaelin: I can't prove it. It's just my opinion, and I believe that my opinion is right.

Question from TERI: Did the trial hurt Kato's career?

Kato Kaelin: It's a double-edged sword. It made me famous for being Kato, but I was at an acting academy for seven years prior to the trial.

Question from Jennie: Kato, it's nice to see you haven't changed, but what have you learned since the trial?

Kato Kaelin: Never live with someone that won the Heisman.

Question from nancy2: Kato, did Nicole ever express her fear of OJ to you?

Kato Kaelin: Yes and no -- not that she was going to ever be killed, but just had a fear of OJ. She used to say he could be very, very manipulative

Question from dee: Kato-do you think the verdict would have been different if the trial had NOT been on Court TV???

Court TV Host: Or on TV in general?

Kato Kaelin: No. It was a time in LA that I believe, I just think that he was going to be proven innocent no matter what.

Question from Zulu: What do you think of comments recently made by Nicole's sister?

Kato Kaelin: Her opinion is her opinion.

Question from Susan: When did all the press coverage finally calm down so you could go on living a normal life?

Kato Kaelin: About a year after the civil trial.

Question from Anushka: Right after you heard about the murders did you immediately suspect OJ?

Kato Kaelin: Thoughts would go in and out of my mind, but I didn't want to believe it that he could have done it.

Question from Zulu: Do you think there is anything you could've done to help the prosecution to convict OJ?

Kato Kaelin: I think the prosecution had all the evidence in front of them to have won the case.

Question from b1^: Do you still have contact with OJ's children?

Kato Kaelin: I have contact with no one involved in the trial, except of course my new roommate Judge Ito. I'm kidding.

Question from Bailey6561: Kato, is there any thing that was never brought out in the media about you or the case that you would like us to know?

Kato Kaelin: I was never OJ's closest pal, and the media would say that over and over, but I wasn't his enemy either.

Question from Anushka: You say you were closer to Nicole than to OJ, did they fight often?

Kato Kaelin: At the time that I knew them they were not living together. They began dating again after their divorce so I didn't really see fighting. I want people to realize that the domestic abuse charges happened in 1989. I didn't meet any of them until 1993.

Question from Cara: Did you do anything to mark the tragic anniversary?

Kato Kaelin: This is one anniversary you can't really buy a cake for. It's a tragedy, and there'll be thoughts but that's all.

Question from nancy2: Were you uncomfortable around OJ after this happened and before his trial?

Kato Kaelin: Yes. I didn't live in the guest house from that moment on.

Question from niklin: Kato--what is your theory about WHY OJ snapped that night and killed Nicole and Ron?

Kato Kaelin: That's like me trying to prove a case.

Question from nooner: Has the misconception of you on the stand ruined your career or only helped it?

Kato Kaelin: The jury is still out -- look for me a lot in 2004, though.

Question from sweet_catastrophe: Kato, were you ever worried about retaliation by OJ or people he knew after you publicly admitted you thought he was guilty?

Kato Kaelin: The thought crossed my mind, and I had many sleepless nights.

Question from annarocket: Are you afraid of OJ now?

Question from flamingstar: Are you fearful of OJ today?

Kato Kaelin: No, I'm not afraid of OJ now.

Question from Susan: Hi Kato - From here in Milwaukee! What is the dumbest question anyone asked you (besides this one?)

Kato Kaelin: If I'm the same Kato from the Green Hornet TV show. Someone once asked me what I though the capitol of Wisconsin was, and I said W. Who does your hair? And are those plugs?

Question from Hummerwagon: Kato, do you believe that if OJ did murder the two of them, he will ever admit to it? Will he leave behind a book detailing everything?

Kato Kaelin: I thought I just answered the dumbest questions, but really I think he will never admit to it and never write a book about it.

Question from deguello1965: I have always thought the noise you heard that night was the sound of a bag being tossed over the fence by OJ , hitting your domicile, and spilling the glove. Your thoughts?

Kato Kaelin: In hindsight now I believe it was somebody falling up against the wall.

Question from TERI: Kato, what do you think of OJ's interview the other evening?

Kato Kaelin: I think it's pretty powerful that he dodged the questions and always focused on the kids but never on Nicole.

Question from Brainiac: I am wondering what he thinks of OJ as a person. Truthfully.

Kato Kaelin: I would never want him to be part of my foursome in golf.

Question from Lidia: Kato, what is your one of your greatest memories you have of Nicole?

Kato Kaelin: Morning coffee.

Question from lynn: What was Nicole like? Great mom who just adored her children. Back to the last question about what Nicole memories I have: that what I mean by morning coffee is there would be morning coffee when the kids would get up for school after they'd come to the guest house bouncing on my bed to wake me up.

Question from WildCat: How did you end up living at OJ's?

Kato Kaelin: I ended up living at OJ's because Nicole bought a home that no longer had a guest house and OJ offered HIS guest house to me. Anybody in LA looking for a place knows the best places to live are guest houses. Today, the entire house has been torn down and someone built a home on the property.

Question from Cara: What do you say to people who insinuate that you were a freeloader and that you've gotten famous....some say rich...off the murder of two people?

Kato Kaelin: Mom, you said you weren't going to e-mail me tonight!

Question from JudgeGuilty: Kato...do you think the media gave you a raw deal? I thought you nailed OJ right to the wall...myself.

Kato Kaelin: The media works in sound bites. They can make you look like a genius or stupid. You decide how they made me look: tonight while I type, I feel genius.

Question from kitty: Are you married?

Kato Kaelin: I'm not married; I'm dating a beautiful woman in New York

Question from WildCat: Kat, welcome. Where do you live now and what do you do career-wise?

Kato Kaelin: Here's what's going on: a new campaign for Trivial Pursuit starts up in August for me with a hilarious commercial airing in October for their campaign. I work closely with VH1. I have my own blow-dryer line coming out with Conair -- really! And I'm developing shows at National Lampoon, and I do radio across America constantly. Starting this Wednesday, listen for me on ESPN radio. I'm busy!!!!

Court TV Host: Any closing thoughts?

Kato Kaelin: If there's something that you hear on TV about me just call me and I'll tell you if it's true.

Court TV Host: Thank you for being our guest today.

Kato Kaelin: Thank you all for your questions, and I'm a big fan of all of you.
