Fla. v. Justin Barber: Beach Stroll Murder Trial
Against jury's recommendation, judge spares Justin Barber death penalty
In a rare legal move, a Florida judge departed from a jury's death penalty recommendation and instead sentenced Justin Barber to life in prison Friday for killing his wife, April, during a stroll on a beach.

Lawyers for Justin Barber say they want to question the jurors who convicted the business consultant of killing his wife about whether they learned about inadmissible evidence discussed on Court TV. A St. Augustine judge will consider the motion in September.
After less than an hour of deliberations, the jury that convicted Justin Barber of murdering his 27-year-old wife during a nighttime stroll along a Florida beach recommended the philandering husband receive the death penalty.
