Oct. 29, 1999

Dirk and Mabel "May" Greineder take out $500,000 life insurance policies on each other.

Oct. 31, 1999, early morning

The two set out for a morning walk at Morses Pond in Wellesley, Mass. Mabel Greineder is bludgeoned with a hammer and stabbed with a knife. Her husband later claims that the two separated and that he found Mabel's body.

Oct. 31, 1999, 8:56 a.m.

Dirk Greineder calls police on his cellular phone reporting that his wife had been beaten. Police arrive minutes later and pronounced Mabel Greineder, beaten at the scene within minutes and that state police arrived within the hour. Greineder was pronounce dead on the scene.

Nov. 1, 1999

Newly widowed Dirk Greineder calls a prostitute to arrange a tryst, according to prosecutors.

Police execute a search warrant at the Greineders' home.

November 1999

Grand jury begins convening weekly to hear evidence against Dirk Greineder.

Nov. 12, 1999

Police execute a second search warrant in Greineder's home and car. Among their findings are drawings of the Morses Pond area, a blood-stained umbrella, a box of condoms and his computers.

Feb. 29, 2000

A grand jury indicts Dr. Dirk Greineder for his wife's murder. Shortly after, he is arrested in his Brookline medical practice and booked for murder.

March 1, 2000

Greineder is arraigned and held without bail.

March 8, 2000

Greineder's medical license is suspended.

May 21, 2001

Trial begins in Norfolk County court.
