Michael Jackson chronology 1, 2, 3

Late January or early February 2003

Mark Geragos

Jackson retains criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos to represent him on custody issues and potential allegations of sexual abuse stemming from the documentary. Geragos testified that by mid-February, he became suspicious of Jane Doe after learning about the JCPenney case, so he hired private investigator Bradley Miller to conduct surveillance on the family.

Feb. 3, 2003

"Living with Michael Jackson" airs in the U.K. Jackson is seen holding hands with John Doe as he defends his practice of sharing his bed with children. The singer says he tucks them in, gives them milk and cookies, and reads bedtime stories. Prosecutors contend little boys actually got bad touches, porn and wine at bedtime.

Feb. 4, 2003

Jackson allegedly calls Jane Doe to say her children's lives are in danger, urging her to send her son to Miami to join him in a press conference rebutting the documentary. The defense claims the trip to see Jackson was the mother's idea.

Feb. 6, 2003

Chris Tucker takes the family with him on a late-night chartered flight from Los Angeles to Miami, where they hole up at the Turnberry Resort Hotel with the King of Pop. The press conference never takes place.

Feb. 6, 2003

Michael Jackson in 2003

"Living with Michael Jackson" airs in the U.S. Prosecutors say Jackson forbids anyone to watch it.

Feb. 6-12, 2003

According to Jane Doe, during this time, alleged co-conspirators Ronald Konitzer and Dieter Weisner threaten that "the killers" will come after her family if she does not participate in a rebuttal video. "Those Germans," she later told jurors, treated her shabbily and forced her to stay in her room memorizing scripted lines.

Feb. 7-8, 2003

Jackson flies the family back to Neverland on a private jet, allegedly gives the boy "Jesus Juice" — wine in a Diet Coke can — and promises to let the child have a $75,000 watch if he keeps quiet. Jane Doe testified she saw Jackson lick her son's forehead as he was sleeping.

Feb. 11, 2003

The mother is driven to a salon in nearby Los Olivos for a $140 wax treatment. Receipts indicate she received a leg, brow, lip, face and bikini wax. She insisted on the stand, "I'm telling you, it was only a leg wax."

Feb. 12, 2003

House manager Jesus Salas ferries the family back home in the middle of the night after a crying Jane Doe tells him she wants to leave. Phone records indicate panic among aides, with at least 38 phone calls between alleged co-conspirators Frank Tyson and Marc Schaffel. After a series of calls between Tyson and Jane Doe, she agrees to return to Neverland.

Feb. 14, 2003

Jackson's personal chauffeur picks up the family and drives them back to Neverland. The mother leaves a few days later and is allegedly told that her children must stay. Shortly afterward, ranch manager Joe Marcus leaves a written directive for Neverland security that the children are not to leave the property. Prosecutors say it is a clear indication of false imprisonment. The defense says it was a safety measure.

Feb. 14, 2003

The Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) hotline receives a tip alleging general neglect by the mother and sexual abuse by Jackson. Attorney Gloria Allred later announced that she lodged the Valentine's Day complaint.

Feb. 19-20, 2003

The children are taken to the home of videographer Hamid Moslehi, where they are joined by their mother. They are interviewed late into the night. The family heaps praise on the singer, calling him an angel and father figure. The mother later testifies that every word was scripted.

Feb. 20, 2003

The family is interviewed at 10 a.m. by social workers from DCFS, who ultimately determine that the accusations are unfounded. A Jackson aide tries to get the mother to secretly tape the interview. The children go back to Neverland with Azja Pryor, Chris Tucker's girlfriend, and alleged co-conspirator Vinnie Amen takes Jane Doe to obtain birth certificates and passports for the family for an upcoming trip to Brazil.

Feb. 20 - March 12, 2003

John Doe claims he was molested by Jackson during this time. The boy later testified that Jackson masturbated him several times against his will as they shared the singer's bed.

Feb. 21, 2003

Jamie Masada

The mother of Jackson's accuser gets Amen to drive her to the Laugh Factory, where owner Jamie Masada introduces her to attorney Bill Dickerman. She says she was concerned about her son's image being used in the Bashir documentary and future productions without her consent; the defense says she was preparing for the biggest con of her life.

Feb. 25 - March 2, 2003

The family stays at Country Inn and Suites in Calabasas, Calif., while Jackson is in Florida. The mother testified that Jackson aides stood guard by their rooms and monitored their phone calls. Defense attorneys procured receipts indicating that the family dined out, had a dental appointment, went on shopping sprees and bought new luggage on Jackson's dime.

Feb. 25, 2003

Alleged co-conspirator Marc Schaffel makes reservations for the family to travel to Brazil. Prosecutors say Jackson was buying them a one-way ticket to obscurity. Azja Pryor testified the mother was excited about going to Carnivale. The trip was canceled after the family's alleged escape.

March 1, 2003

Amen pays the final month's rent on the family's studio apartment, and private investigator Bradley Miller moves their items into storage. The mother testified that the move was unauthorized. Geragos testified the mother requested the move because she was planning to move in with her new boyfriend.

March 2, 2003

Jackson returns from Florida; the family is brought back to Neverland. The allegedly illicit sleepovers resume in the singer's bedroom.

March 6, 2003

The boys have not been in school for weeks, and Amen officially checks them out using allegedly falsified documents, saying they are relocating to Phoenix.

March 9, 2003

John Doe comes to his mother's room in the middle of the night and confides that Jackson is worried about the boy's medical appointment the next day, because a routine urine test to monitor his kidney will show he has been sipping "Jesus juice." The defense claims the boy and his brother were drinking Jackson's liquor without his knowledge.
