A 37-year-old father of three, he knew Williams through Kent Culuko, a friend for 20 years. He previously had met Williams “like three or four times,” and considered him an acquaintance.

Was standing in an office adjacent to the bedroom. Rushed in after the shot went off.

Culuko, 33, a special-ed teacher, became friends with Williams in 1997 after his brother, Kent Culuko, tried out for the Nets.

John Gordnick

A 46-year-old personal trainer and father of three, Gordnick met Williams four years ago through Kent Culuko.


Pleaded guilty to evidence tampering and agreed to testify against Williams in exchange for prosecutors’ dropping more serious charges.

No. Williams was only joking. When Christofi misinterpreted it and started to leave, Williams ran after him, hugged him and said, “I’m only kiddin’ with you, man.”

Kent Culuko

A 31-year-old who formerly played pro basketball in Europe and South America, Culuko met Williams when he tried out for the Nets in 1997. He was a close friend, who visited Williams’ home 4 to 5 times a week.

Pleaded guilty to evidence tampering and witness tampering and agreed to testify against Williams in exchange for prosecutors dropping hindering apprehension charge and allowing his record to be expunged later.
4 to 6 Coors Light beers and a few sips of wine. Some wine and a shot of Sambuca in his espresso. When Williams realized he had upset Christofi by telling him to “get the f--- out,” he told the driver, “You are one of the guys tonight. Sit down and have a drink.”
Williams was holding the open shotgun down at his side. He turned toward Christofi and called him a “motherf---er.” Christofi rolled his eyes. Williams jerked the gun upward, closing it. It discharged, striking Christofi.

Benoit Benjamin

A 39-year-old former Nets teammate of Williams, Benjamin was trying out for the Harlem Globetrotters in hopes of making an NBA comeback.

Williams asked Christofi, “What the f--- are you doing in this motherf---ing restaurant?” Christofi appeared uneasy, and Williams started laughing and eventually Christofi realized he was joking.
Williams was holding the gun at his side. He faced Christofi and said, “What the f--- are you doing in my mother f---ing room, you f---ing stoolie?” He then “flicked the gun up,” pulled the trigger and it fired.

Chris Morris

Morris, 38, a teammate of Williams on the Nets, was playing for the Harlem Globetrotters at the time of the shooting.

Why are you in here listening to our conversation? You might be a snitch.” He quickly told Christofi to “sit down. I was just joking with you.” Williams was holding the gun with his right hand “near the trigger” when he turned toward Christofi and swung the weapon up “in one motion.” It fired immediately.

The 36-year-old “clown prince” of the Harlem Globetrotters, Gaffney had never met Williams before that night.

Granted immunity by the prosecution No A shot of liquor in his coffee and some wine Williams said, “What are you doing in here?” and when Christofi stood up, said, “No, go on. Sit down. I’m just joking.” Was in the bedroom, but turned away from Williams at the time of the shooting.

The 38-year-old Harlem Globetrotter met Williams for the first time the night of the shooting.

Granted immunity by the prosecution Two glasses of wine Didn’t see him drink anything Williams said in a serious voice, “What the f--- are you doing in here?” Christofi looked “shocked” and got up to leave. Williams said, “I’m just f---ing with you. Go home and get your shinebox.” He then added, “Sit down, let me buy you a drink.” Didn’t see the shooting.
