Three white former police officers were sentenced to long prison terms Thursday for the off-duty beating of a biracial man, an attack that outraged the city and sent protesters into the streets.

Three white former police officers were convicted Thursday of beating a biracial man outside a party and violating his civil rights, but a suspended officer was acquitted in the case.
Six former and current Milwaukee police officers, including three who had been acquitted of most state charges in the beating of a biracial man, were indicted Thursday on federal civil rights violation charges in the assault.
A biracial man who sued a group of police officers he accuses of beating him outside a house party said Tuesday he's struggling to forgive them.
Former Milwaukee police officer Jon Bartlett faces more than nine years in prison after a jury convicted him of bail jumping and making a bomb threat. Bartlett was one of three cops tried and acquitted on charges connected to the beating of Frank Jude Jr. at a house party.
The U.S. Justice Department will join a federal investigation into the beating of a biracial man after a jury acquitted three white former police officers of most state charges, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said Friday.
