King boys' mother charged with theft
Janet Lyttle was charged with theft by deception after illegally collecting Social Security survivor benefits on behalf of her sons — Alex and Derek King, the Florida teens convicted of beating their father to death. While the money is usually available for children whose primary wage earner died, the King case is an exception since the boys were responsible for their father's killing.

    Win some, lose some
Ricky Chavis may have been acquitted of murdering Terry Lee King even before a separate jury heard the case against Kings' young sons. But Chavis' legal troubles were far from over — he was then tried for molesting the younger King boy, Alex, and though a jury cleared him of molestation and kidnapping, they convicted him of false imprisonment. After receiving a five year sentence for that crime, Chavis faced a third trial, this time for helping the boys after they killed their father. He was found guilty and handed the maximum sentence of 30 years behind bars.

    Chavis acquitted; brothers guilty
Just 90 minutes after a Florida jury found Derek King, 14, and Alex King, 13, guilty of second-degree murder and arson, a judge unsealed another jury's week-old verdict acquitting Ricky Marvin Chavis of the same crime. The brothers face up to life in prison for the death of their father, but will be eligible for parole one day. Chavis, a convicted pedophile, still faces trial for allegations he sexually abused Alex and tried to help coverup the murder of his longtime friend.

  •     In back-to-back Florida trials, two juries must decide the fate of Terry Lee King's accused murderers — the victim's friend, convicted child molester Ricky Marvin Chavis; or King's own sons, Alex, 13, and Derek, 14. Alex King claims Chavis, a convicted child molester, was his lover.
