Diary Excerpts

Martha Moxley wrote about her problems with Michael Skakel in her diary, excerpts of which were entered into evidence.

Coleman Motion

In this motion, the defense seeks to bar a transcript of the testimony of George Coleman, a key witness for the prosecution that died prior to trial.

Discovery Motion

In this motion, the defense asks that prosecutors turn over any witness statements, wiretaps, physical and forensic evidence that may be helpful to Skakel's defense.

Appellate Brief

This brief, filed by Michael Skakel's lawyer Mickey Sherman, argues that the Kennedy cousin is entitled to appeal the ruling that transferred his murder case from juvenile to adult court.

Libel Suit

This lawsuit was filed against the weekly Greenwich Post newspaper for an article alleging that murder defendant Michael Skakel and his brother committed a robbery a week before Martha Moxley's death.

The Sutton Report
The Skakel family hired the prestigious private investigators, Sutton Associates, in the early 1992 to determine if anyone in the household was involved with the murder. Read excerpts here.

Decision on the Release of Documents

Connecticut juvenile judge Maureen Dennis refused a media request to open Michael Skakel's sealed court file. Read her reasons here.

Reasonable Cause Finding
After hearing testimony at a June hearing, Judge Dennis determined that there was enough evidence to support murder charges against Skakel. Read her assessment of the state's case here.
Elan Motion

The defense asks that the state be barred from eliciting evidence from employees of Elan One, the rehab center that treated Skakel, citing confidentiality rules.

 

 
    Teenager Martha Moxley was beaten to death with a golf club in 1975, but it took almost 27 years before her neighbor, Michael Skakel, would be convicted of her murder. Skakel is the nephew of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.
