THE FIRST TRIAL
Susan Polk first stood trial for murder in October 2005 with prominent defense lawyer Daniel Horowitz by her side. Just three days after opening statements, Horowitz discovered his wife's murdered body on property where the couple was building their dream home. A mistrial was declared in light of the circumstances. For her retrial, Polk opted not to hire another lawyer.
