Teen anarchist sues school principal

The Verdict

On July 12, 2002, the jury of five women and one man found that Katie Sierra was improperly denied the right to start a club, but was properly suspended and properly denied the right to wear her T-shirts. The jury awarded the nominal damages of $1.

Katie Sierra and her attorneys viewed the verdict as a victory. The jury's decision also allows the attorneys to petition the trial judge for their fees and expenses.

Defense attorney Gary Pullin says that the verdict is not a guarantee that there will be an anarchy club at Sissonville. Katie's request must be reviewed again, but can still be denied, he says.

Katie Sierra was originally denied the right to return to Sissonville High School. However, she was subsequently granted permission to return to the school and plans to return in the fall 2002 for her senior year.
