Judge grants Williams a new trial

A Nevada appeals judge granted Jessica Williams a new trial after defense lawyer John Watkins successfully argued the controversial statute under which she was convicted did not specifically address metabolite produced by marijuana. Such evidence was presented to the jury that in February 2001 convicted Williams, a former stripper and admitted daily pot smoker, of a crash that killed six teens on a Las Vegas highway.

    Judge Mark Gibbons sentenced Jessica Williams to six consecutive terms of three to eight years for the deaths of six teens killed when she crashed into them on a Las Vegas highway. She had faced a maximum sentence of 120 years in prison, but did not get more lenient concurrent terms.
