DALLAS, Texas (Court TV) UPDATED 10/1/19: A jury found Amber Guyger guilty of murder on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019.
A former Dallas, Texas, police officer who fatally shot her neighbor after entering the wrong apartment testified Friday, Sept. 27, as her defense began its case-in-Chief. Amber Renee Guyger, 31, is accused of shooting and killing 26-year-old Botham Jean on Sept. 6, 2018.
Guyger, who had reportedly just finished a 13.5-hour shift, says she thought an unarmed Jean was an intruder in her apartment when she fatally shot him. She’s now facing life in prison for what her defense team calls a tragic accident and fatal error. Prosecutors claim the shooting was intentional.
