Blame Game Heats Up as Defense Turns on Teacher Shot by 6-Year-Old
The defense for former assistant principal Ebony Parker argued Tuesday that multiple adults, including wounded teacher Abigail Zwerner, failed to act before a 6-year-old student shot Zwerner in a Virginia classroom in 2023. Prosecutors say Parker ignored repeated warnings that the first grader may have had a gun and charged her with eight felony child abuse counts tied to the children endangered during the shooting. During emotional testimony, Zwerner said she warned Parker the student was in a violent mood that day, while Parker’s defense claimed the teacher also had opportunities to protect students before the gun was fired.
