LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities in Las Vegas have accused a 23-year-old mother of driving drunk at 121 mph (195 kph) when she crashed her car into another car during the weekend, killing her infant son.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that a judge on Tuesday set bail at $50,000 for Lauren Loanna Prescia after noting the “excessive” speed on a city street and calling it a danger to the community.

Prescia appeared with a court-appointed public defender and was not asked to enter a plea.

The judge set another hearing July 20 and said that if Prescia posts bail for release from jail she will be on home confinement with electronic monitoring and is not allowed to drive.

Prescia was arrested Sunday on felony charges of DUI causing death, reckless driving and child abuse or neglect after police said her Hyundai Sonata slammed into a Nissan Sentra in a residential area in northwest Las Vegas.

Prescia and a 36-year-old woman driving the Nissan received minor injuries.

A police arrest report said the boy’s father was driving nearby after having given their 1-year-old son to Prescia in a custody exchange. It said Prescia told him on phone that she was going to beat him home.
