COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (Court TV) – Attorneys representing convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh have asked a judge for additional time to prepare for his pending lawsuit, citing the disgraced attorney’s conditions in prison for the delay.

In a court filing on April 3, attorneys representing Murdaugh filed a motion saying that while their client “intends to participate fully in this litigation to the extent his carceral circumstances permit, his very recent assignment to a special Restrictive Housing Unit, however, creates logistical complications delaying his ability to do so,” Fox News reported.

Murdaugh, who was convicted and sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for the murders of his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, is facing a lawsuit from the Nautilus Insurance Company related to the death of his former housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield.

Satterfield died after a fall at the Murdaugh home, where she suffered a head injury. In a Netflix docuseries released after the Murdaugh murders, some who knew the family speculated that Satterfield died because “she knew too much.”

Attorneys representing Satterfield’s family have said they do not suspect foul play in her death.

Murdaugh is accused of stealing millions of dollars in insurance money paid out for Satterfield’s death.

Attorneys representing Murdaugh did not specify the conditions that necessitated the delay, but asked to be given until May 1 to respond to an amended complaint in the lawsuit, WHNS reported.
