PLYMOUTH, Mass. (Court TV) — Prosecutors showed a jury photos of Lindsay Clancy’s young children taken just hours before their deaths as they worked to prove she was sane when she killed them.

Lindsay Clancy, 35, has admitted to using exercise bands to strangle her three young children — Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months — in the basement of their Duxbury home. Through her attorney, the defendant has claimed that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she took her children’s lives before slashing her throat and arms with a knife and jumping out of a window.
Prosecutors began presenting their case to a jury on July 27, telling the panel of 18 that Clancy “was not a woman in the throes of psychosis on Jan. 24, 2023. This was a woman who acted intentionally, rationally, and swiftly to accomplish a very specific goal: to kill.”
To prove its case, the prosecution has introduced evidence detailing the defendant’s physical and digital movements in the weeks, days and hours leading up to her kids’ deaths. Phone records show Clancy acting normally on the morning of Jan. 24; she shared a photo of Cora at the doctor’s office. Her then-husband responded with a photo of Dawson, who had successfully dressed himself for the first time that day.
Smiling family photos appear to show Clancy enjoying life before the killings, which prosecutors have argued proves that she was not suffering from a mental health crisis.
Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, told the jury that his client is “living in a nightmare” following the deaths of her children. Reddington said that multiple medical professionals failed Clancy, who had repeatedly sought help for what she had described as increasing anxiety after her youngest son’s birth.
The case is expected to hinge on the testimony of expert witnesses, as Reddington has signaled his willingness to stipulate to nearly every aspect of the children’s deaths. As the trial began, he declined the option to review the prosecutors’ exhibits before they were displayed.
The trial will also include a jury view; the panel will travel to the home where the Clancy family used to live on Friday, July 31, to see the property firsthand. The trial is scheduled to continue for six to eight weeks.
