The stakes couldn’t be higher for defendant Ronnie Oneal. He’s on trial for double homicide, accused of brutally murdering his girlfriend, his special needs daughter and attempting to kill his seven-year-old son. Florida prosecutors think the crime merits the death penalty, which makes it all the more remarkable that Ronnie Oneal chose to act as his own lawyer and defend himself. Acting as his own lawyer means he also got to cross-examine the state’s star witness, Oneal’s son.
