AZ v. ROQUE (2003)

In one of the first crimes related to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Frank Roque has admitted to killing a Sikh gas station owner four days later, because he looked Arab and wore a turban. Prosecutors claim Roque killed Balbir Singh Sodhi out of hate and had made numerous racist statements after the attacks about immigrants from the Middle East or those who appeared Middle Eastern. The defense contends that Roque was insane at the time of the shooting and the crime was not racially motivated.
