NY v. MCKIEVER (1995)
After twice being found incompetent, Kevin McKiever is on trial for the 1991 murder of former Radio City Rockette Alexis Ficks Welsh. Prosecutors say McKiever, a homeless man, fatally stabbed Welsh while she was walking her two dogs in the early morning. He was picked up near the scene after police say he matched the description of the assailant who fled the scene. The defense claims he’s a victim of mistaken identity and the real killer is another tall, black homeless man.
