Excerpts from Amber Frey's new book

(AP) — Excerpts from Amber Frey's new book about Scott Peterson, as released by the publisher, Regan Books:

"'You don't understand,'" I said. "'I've been dating this guy. He's supposed to be on his way to Europe, and now I'm finding out that he's here and he has a pregnant wife and that she's missing?!'"

On her calls to Scott when he said he was in Europe:

"This guy is unbelievable. His wife is missing and presumed dead and he's talking about French food and big churches and cobblestones."

On her helping the police:

"I kept thinking, I have to do everything I can to help these police officers. I have to help them find Laci and her baby."

On her feelings at the guilty verdict:

"I didn't know what I felt exactly, but I do know that I was completely overwhelmed. For two years Scott Peterson had taken over my life, and it was finally over. The pain. The heartache. The lies. The personal attacks. The ridicule. The way complete strangers had had the gall to question my integrity and my morals."
