PLYMOUTH, Mass. (Court TV) — Hundreds of women lined the street outside the Plymouth County courthouse on Thursday to show their support for a woman charged with murdering her three children.

Lindsay Clancy, 36, has admitted to strangling her three young children to death, but pleaded not guilty to murder charges, saying that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time. In testimony, Clancy’s family members and doctors said that she was suffering for weeks before taking her children’s lives and that she had sought help from multiple hospitals and providers.
The case has drawn national attention, with thousands of social media posts analyzing the trial daily. Many posts have been critical of the prosecution, but supportive of the defendant. That support moved from online to in person on Thursday, when hundreds of women, dressed in pink, stood on the street outside the courthouse.
Organizer Renee Kimball, who has no relationship with Clancy or her family, said that the event was neither a protest nor a rally. She explained that everyone there had come “to show Lindsay support; to show her peace, to show her calm. When you’re living in a mental health crisis in any form, it’s loud, it’s chaotic. And a rally and a protest is not what she needed. So we’re all here to just silently stand and let her know that we’re behind her.”
Kimball said she never expected the gathering to grow so large, but was grateful for the turnout. “It’s incredible. The amount of support that’s pouring in behind that tape right now is just amazing.”

Amy, who works in mental health, said she decided to attend the event in support of Clancy because “Massachusetts failed her, and we need to stand and show people that mental illness is a serious thing and more women need support.”
Kimball said she had a message for Clancy: “We’re here, we hear you, we understand you, and any one of us could have been sitting in your chair. So we are behind you, 100 percent.” Other women echoed her sentiments. “Team Lindsay,” one said. “You’re not alone, we’re with you.”
Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, paused outside the courthouse as supporters shouted, “I love you” from the crowd. “Thank you. That’s all we can say; it’s amazing,” he said. “[Clancy] is so beat up and just so sad. This will really help her out, I think.”
Reddington was quick to answer when asked why the case has received so much attention. “It’s the mental health system,” he said. “I hate to use the word healthcare because, unfortunately, in this case we’ve seen it hasn’t been healthcare. And I think it shines a light on this issue.”
Clancy’s support extends beyond Massachusetts. A woman in Wisconsin started an online fundraiser for Clancy’s parents, who have financially supported her defense. As of Thursday morning, the GoFundMe had raised more than $966,500.
