NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City police detective was convicted Wednesday of forcing a 16-year-old prostitute to have oral sex.

A jury found Anthony Downing guilty of one count of sodomy in the first degree and misdemeanor charges involving drunk driving. He faces a maximum of up to 25 years in prison on the sodomy charge.

Downing's attorney, Daniel Lynch, said he would file a motion to have the sodomy charge dismissed, adding that what occurred between Downing and the prostitute was a "negotiated money-for-sex consensual agreement."

Prosecutors said Downing solicited the prostitute for oral sex last year in exchange for $30. The victim changed her mind in Downing's car because he was driving erratically but Downing ignored her and forced her to perform oral sex, said prosecutor Robert Johnson.

Downing has been suspended while awaiting a departmental hearing.
