BOISE, Idaho (Court TV) — Lori Vallow-Daybell has been declared not currently competent to stand trial in a recent court record.

Vallow-Daybell underwent a competency evaluation after her “fitness to proceed was drawn into question by counsel,” according to the document. The state has contested the findings, leading the court to schedule a future hearing. The order to stay pertains to Vallow-Daybell’s conspiracy to commit destruction of evidence case regarding the death of her two children, for which she has been in jail for months awaiting trial.

The remains of 7-year-old JJ Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan were found on property belonging to her husband, Chad Daybell, in June 2020. Chad Daybell has also been in custody on multiple charges, including destruction of evidence.

This week, the couple was indicted for the murders of the two children. As a result, Vallow-Daybell’s murder case has also been placed on hold pending the determination of her competency.
