MAYS LANDING, N.J. (Court TV) — A New Jersey man will spend 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to beating his pregnant girlfriend to death with a baseball bat.

Boris Lainez-Rosales, 28, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Leslianette Quintana-Betancourt, 25, who was killed in the couple’s home.
Lainez-Rosales initially tried to claim that his girlfriend fell down the stairs, but later admitted to beating the victim with a baseball bat, prosecutors said. A witness at the couple’s home told officers the couple could be heard arguing that night, but Lainez-Rosales prevented the witness from seeing what was happening, Law&Crime reported. Lainez-Rosales claimed “everything was fine,” but then returned to the witness a short time later and asked to use their phone to call 911.

In a probable cause affidavit obtained by the Courier-Post, first responders said Quintana-Betancourt’s body was found at the bottom of a stairwell, but there were no bloodstains visible and her body “smelled of bleach.”
The victim suffered multiple blunt-force injuries to her hands, face, arms and torso. She was pregnant at the time of the attack and suffered a ruptured placenta; her unborn child did not survive.
In May 2026, Lainez-Rosales changed his plea to guilty and admitted that he assaulted the victim using a baseball bat. Police found a bloodstained bat in the backyard and a trash bag in the defendant’s car “with possible hair attached,” the affidavit said.
Judge Joseph Levin sentenced Lainez-Rosales to 30 years in prison. He will not be eligible for early release.
