The wrongful death suit, filed April 14, is seeking damages and a jury trial against Courtney Clenney and four parties connected to the condominium the couple was occupying at the time of Obumseli’s death.

Clenney is currently in custody on a charge of second-degree murder. She’s accused of fatally stabbing Obumseli on April 3, 2022. She has pleaded not guilty and claims her actions were in self-defense.

The lawsuit accuses Clenney of battery in Obumseli’s death. It states, “On April 3, 2022, Defendant Courtney Clenney intentionally touched, struck, made contact with, and/or stabbed Christian Obmuseli against his will” and “as a result of (Clenney’s) intentional actions, Christian Obumseli died.”

It also accuses the owner of the condo property and their management and security companies of negligence.

Clenney was arrested in Hawaii on Aug. 10, 2022. She was extradited to Florida weeks later, where she has since been in custody. She’s expected to stand trial this year, but a date has not been set by the court.
