CLEVELAND (Court TV) — A divorce attorney charged with murdering his client has filed a motion asking that the jury visit the crime scene during his trial.

Gregory Moore, 52, is charged with murder, kidnapping and conspiracy in the death of Aliza Sherman, 53. At the time of Sherman’s death, Moore was representing her in her divorce from her estranged husband. On March 25, 2013, Sherman received a message asking her to meet her attorney at his office. While she was waiting outside the building for someone to unlock the doors, someone approached Sherman, circled her and then chased her before stabbing her more than 10 times.
A motion filed this week in Cuyahoga County by Moore’s defense team asks Judge Kira Krivosh to arrange for the jury, once impaneled, to visit the “area from E. 9th St. to E. 13th St. inclusive of the plaza between the Galleria and 45-75 Erieview and then Hamilton Avenue at E. 12 St. to E. 13 St.” The motion specifies that the defense would like the jury to be taken to see the scene before evidence is presented in the courtroom — likely immediately following opening statements.
Moore’s request for the jury view was filed days after Krivosh denied his motion to dismiss the indictment over the defense’s protests that key witnesses in the case were no longer available because of how much time had elapsed between Sherman’s death and charges being filed in the case.
At the time of Sherman’s death, Moore was under investigation for allegedly calling in a bomb threat in an effort to avoid appearing in court. Prosecutors said that in 2023, investigators discovered receipts and cellphone purchase records that tied Moore both to the bomb threat and to Sherman’s death.
Moore is out on bond while awaiting his murder trial, which has not yet been scheduled.
