NEW YORK (Court TV) — The rape suspect for whom four officers were searching the night they killed Amadou Diallo has been arrested.

Issaac Jones, 38, is suspected of committing 51 rapes in the city since 1993, plus numerous robberies. He was arrested Tuesday.

Jones lives less than a mile from the Bronx apartment building where the Street Crimes Unit officers shot Diallo to death Feb. 4. while looking for Jones.

Diallo, a 22-year-old street vendor from West Africa, does resemble Jones slightly.

The officers have suggested that Diallo refused to cooperate with them and that they thought Diallo was about to pull a gun on them when they opened fire.

Diallo, however, was unarmed and had no criminal record. All four officers have been indicted for second-degree murder.

Court TV's Catherine Heins and The Associated Press contributed to this report.
