The state of Texas executed convicted cop killer Johnathan Moore Wednesday for shooting a San Antonio police officer in 1995.
Moore, 31, apologized to the wife of Fabian Dale Dominguez before his execution by lethal injection at approximately 6:21 p.m. in Huntsville, Texas.
"It was done out of fear, stupidity and immaturity," Moore said, addressing Jennifer Morgan. "It wasn't until I got locked up and saw the newspaper; I saw his face and smile and I realized I had killed a good man."
He also encouraged a friend standing by to stop using heroin and told his father that he loved him, according to the Associated Press.
Moore was convicted in 1996 of capital murder for shooting Dominguez, who encountered Moore and two friends as they were leaving a home they had just burglarized.
The three teens were sitting in their getaway vehicle when Dominguez approached. Moore shot the father of two at point blank range in the head before shooting him three more times with Dominguez's own gun.
In an interview with CourtTVnews.com last week, Moore accepted responsibility for the crime.
"I didn't have time to think things through and understand what was happening fully," he said. "I can't call it survival or, like, self-defense, but I was scared and I wasn't about to let anybody alter my path."
He also expressed concern that his co-defendant, Paul Cameron, received an unfair sentence.
Cameron was sentenced to life for allegedly encouraging Moore to shoot Dominguez. The car's driver, Pete Dowdle, received 25 years on one charge of organized crime.
Moore, whose girlfriend said the couple were legally married Friday, was the second inmate to be executed this year in Texas.
