1-NY v. Boss, et al.: Opening Statements
Four New York City police officers are accused of shooting and killing West African immigrant Amadou Diallo. The officers, members of the elite Street Crime Unit, are each charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of reckless endangerment, facing 25 years to life if convicted. Prosecutors claim the officers, who were looking for a rape suspect at the time, fired 41 shots at the unarmed Diallo. The defendants, Kenneth Boss, Sean Carroll, Edward McMellon & Richard Murphy, believe Diallo was reaching for a gun when they shot him. MORE
