Watch Tape of May 17th Live Webcast

On Monday, May 17, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. EST, Court TV will partner with national leaders, education associations, and cable operators across the country to produce a special live Webcast event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the seminal Brown v. Board of Education decision.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Hosted by Court TV anchor, James Curtis, this event presents an opportunity for educators and students across the country to pause and reflect on the progress that has been made during the last 50 years and challenge everyone to come up with solutions for improving the educational opportunities for current and future generations. The program will feature students from various regions and a number of prominent leaders including US Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer; Former Senator Robert Dole, Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius; Reg Weaver, President, National Education Association; Warlene Gary, CEO, National PTA; Tavis Smiley, Talk show host; performances by Michelle Williams, recording artist and member of pop group Destiny's Child, and many others.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Recording artist Michelle Williams will perform with the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Choir and the Williams Magnet School Choir as well as talk live with students in Topeka, KS.
Live from Topeka, KA, witness the unveiling of the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site, including remarks from President George W. Bush -- with Cox Communications in Topeka.
Live from New York University, a special "teach-in" engaging high school students from around the country with pivotal figures involved in the original class-action suits.
From Charlotte, NC, a student debate on the current state of desegregation, entitled "Desegregation in Mecklenburg County: Has it worked?" with the Charlotte Division of Time Warner Cable.
A roundtable discussion about the impact of the Brown decision featuring some of today's most celebrated artists. Music and much more.
