Man exonerated in Malcolm X killing sues NYC for $40 million

NEW YORK (AP) — A man who was exonerated last year in the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X has filed a $40 million lawsuit against New York City for the two decades he spent in prison for a notorious crime he did not commit. Lawyers for 84-year-old Muhammad Aziz filed the lawsuit Thursday in federal court in Brooklyn over Aziz’s wrongful conviction in the murder of Malcolm X. An additional complaint was filed on behalf of the estate of Khalil Islam, a second man who was wrongly convicted in the assassination. Mayor Eric Adams says city lawyers are reviewing the complaints. More

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Disgraced South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh has been charged with murder in connection with the mysterious 2021 deaths of his wife and son. The charges were announced Thursday. Murdaugh’s 52-year-old wife Maggie and 22-year-old son Paul were shot to death outside their home on June 7, 2021. Murdaugh is already jailed and facing dozens of other criminal charges. Until now, the most recent charges came in a June indictment involving an eight-year money laundering and painkiller ring. Earlier charges included accusations that he lied to police, that he tried to arrange his own death and that he stole money from clients. More
