The Alabama woman was charged with domestic violence for assaulting her husband and another woman with the bug spray can on May 19.
According to Captain Marty Bruce of the Athens Police Department, Smith, 26, was at work when she received a tip from a neighbor that her husband was in their apartment with another woman. Smith immediately returned home and allegedly caught the couple in bed. The man later told police that he and the woman were only talking when his wife found them.
Smith initially placed a call to police to say that she had just caught her husband cheating on her and that he was trying to leave.
"I'm not sure what she wanted us to do about it," Bruce said, adding that officers considered going to the apartment because the call suggested that a domestic dispute was inevitable.
Their concerns were confirmed when Smith placed a second call.
"She called back and told us she didn't need us, that she was going to take care of it," the captain said.
Officers arrived at the residence, where they found Smith's husband and the other woman bleeding from head wounds. Smith had allegedly hit the couple with a can of insecticide.
Smith was arrested and charged with domestic violence in the third degree, and later posted a $1000 bond. A magistrate issued a temporary restraining order against her.
