On Aug. 26, 2006, someone put "fireworks" or another explosive device in a portable toilet in Morgan Township, Ind., according to Sgt. Tim Emmons of the Porter County Sheriff's Department.
Resident David Brown said he woke up that morning to a "loud explosion noise," according to the police report.
When Brown went to locate the noise, he found that a portable toilet down the road "had been blown up," the report said.
The toilet, which belonged to a company called Tidy John's, sustained $750 of damage. Emmons said police don't have a suspect.
"That type of crime is pretty difficult to solve," he said.
According to Emmons, the Tidy John wasn't the only portable toilet recently targeted by pranksters.
On the same day, two portable toilets were set on fire near a school's concession stand. The fire "caught onto the building and gutted it out," according to Emmons.
Could the same culprit have committed both crimes?
No, according to Emmons.
"The two locations are quite a distance apart," he said. "They are two unrelated portapotty incidents."
